UCSD Hotline Operating
Principles
|
| WHY A HOTLINE?
If members of the UCSD community -- faculty, staff and students -- have
concerns about possible improper activities that may place the University
at risk, we encourage them to discuss their concerns with their
supervisors, managers or departmental heads.
We recognize that sometimes
an individual would prefer an alternative avenue for reporting concerns
about compliance with policies and procedures that allows anonymity and confidentiality.
To provide that option, UCSD has
established
a Hotline program to field calls about compliance on an anonymous basis
and relay concerns back to the appropriate University office for review
and, when necessary, action.
WHAT KINDS OF
CALLS ARE APPROPRIATE? The
Hotline is designed to respond to concerns about:
- Misuse of assets, fraud and waste
- Conflict of interest violations
- Health and safety violations
- Inappropriate gifts, entertainment
and gratuities
- Potential false billings, including
patient billings
WHAT WILL HAPPEN
WITH MY CALL? We have
retained an independent company to manage this service. Trained
personnel will take your call. If you choose, you may give your
report without identifying yourself. You will be given a code number
so that you can call back for a status report at some later date.
Your report will be forwarded to the
appropriate campus department or program, for example, to Audit &
Management Advisory Services or the UCSD Healthcare Compliance
Office. |

HOTLINE
OPERATING PRINCIPLES:
|
- The UCSD Hotline was developed to
take calls regarding possible fraud, such as misuse of assets, false
billings, conflict of interest, or other compliance issues.
|
- Faculty, staff and students are
encouraged to report concerns directly to their immediate supervisors,
managers or department heads. When this approach is not viable,
the UCSD Hotline provides a secondary confidential alternative for
reporting concerns requiring University review and action.
|
- The UCSD Hotline is not intended to
replace or interfere with normal reporting, supervision, or management
information processes, procedures or protocols established and
practiced within various University work environments.
|
- Reporting information and concerns to
the UCSD Hotline does not modify time periods specified in existing
University policies and procedures.
|
- Operation of the UCSD Hotline
supplements, but does not supercede, any existing UCSD policy or
procedure.
